General James F. Amos, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, spoke to our company here at The Basic School, saying something to the effect of,

"Far more important than technical and tactical proficiency is the ability of a Marine to stand
on MORAL HIGH-GROUND and his or her implicit duty to hold accountable those who opt for
          LESS."

I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY and have always believed this! -- That without strong morals or values, your actions are, at best, reckless and unfocused.  General Amos cited specific examples of hazing, sexual assault, and the recent prostitution and urination scandals involving Marines which caused a blight on our proud history.

His speech today was a call back to our heritage of standing upon moral high-ground and remembering the mantel of responsibility that we assumed the moment we were first called "Marines."
